The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Maintenance Supervisor to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering and Public Works- Drainage division. The Maintenance Supervisor - Drainage earns a competitive wage of $29.82-$32.28/per hour based on qualifications and experience. A DAY IN LIFE AS A MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR - DRAINAGE
The purpose of this class within the organization is to direct, instruct, schedule, review and evaluate the work activities of assigned maintenance crews within the Streets and Drainage Division.
Supervisory Functions:
Supports subordinate Crew Leaders who supervise employees in the Streets and Drainage Division of Public Works. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Functions:
- Directs, instructs, schedules, reviews and evaluates the work activities of maintenance crews and personnel including work order resolution,
- Reviews program needs and obtains quotes for materials and oversight of service contract activities and associated costs to support maintenance goals and activities.
- Provides basic oversight for contract services to scope of work, inspection and review of invoices to ensure work meets intended scope and standards (street maintenance, sidewalk repairs, and drainage conveyance systems.
- Utilizes programs such as Excel, project management software to gather, track and enter bid items, quantities and payment related information, or pavement condition information for sidewalk, street maintenance and paving, crack sealing and drainage installation.
- Oversees the safety/training of employees and equipment; inspects job sites to ensure that safety procedures and established repair methods are utilized.
- Handles difficult situations in a professional manner while collaborating with contractors, personnel and the general public.
- Assigns daily work orders to assigned crews and leads weekly safety meetings.
- Informs citizens of planned work that will affect the motoring public and responds to citizen's complaints and requests professionally either by phone, in writing or in person; generates work orders for each complaint or request, and reviews progress of work orders, trends and productivity of staff.
- Provides timely, high quality streets, drainage, sidewalk services for the residents and businesses of Pearland, Texas.
Additional Duties:
- Prepares annual performance evaluations for staff.
- Schedules crews for provision of assigned services.
- Orders material and supplies needed for provision of assigned services and goods.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college.
- Requires four years of supervision in maintenance and operations, or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Texas Class C Driver's License
- Concrete, Asphalt certifications preferred
