Job Summary:
This full-time position responsible for washing the exterior and cleaning the interior of city buses; performing basic repairs such as replacing lights and other small items; checking and replacing fluid; maintaining service records; retrieving parts and supplies; delivering and picking up vehicles for repair; cleaning and maintaining facility and on occasion assisting the mechanic. Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergencies as required.
Hours of work 1:00 - 9:30 p.m., M-F with 4 hours on alternating Saturdays.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in basic mechanical repair of vehicles.
- Current driver's license and good driving record.
- Some knowledge of computer operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer knowledge of Oracle, Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Knowledge of or familiarity with CityWorks software.
- Class A CDL with Air Brake, and Tanker endorsements; or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Working knowledge of City geography required.
- Flaggers Certification required; or ability to obtain in 90 days.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems including pump stations, satellite controllers, checking and repairing sprinkler heads and underground pipe.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to clean and wash vehicles by hand.
- Read, understand, and interpret instructions, fill out forms and communicate verbally and in written form.
- Complete forms and maintain records system.
- Work with small objects (e.g., placing washers on bolts).
- Learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation and work independently or as a part of a team.
- Recognize and utilize all safety materials and procedures and operate and properly use hand tools and power tools.
- Understand City policies and procedures as they relate to equipment maintenance.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergencies as required.

Work Environment
- Exposure to all weather conditions, sometimes for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to various types of machinery noise, dust, and debris.
- Potential exposure to chemicals used in commercial fleet applications.
- Communication skills enough to convey information to supervisor, co-workers, and transit employees.
- Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment, interpreting dials and repairing equipment.
- Make precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintain static arm-hand position (e.g., using a hammer, wrench, screwdriver, or similar tool);
- Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
- Make controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism.
- Manual dexterity enough to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach out to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools.
- Ability to move over rough, uneven, and rocky surfaces in the performance of maintenance duties.
- Stamina and strength enough to move objects up to 50 pounds long distances.
