This vacancy is located in the Maintenance Department at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA. ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
This position will be filled as a temporary, part-time Classified WAE appointment and is not to exceed 1,100 hours in a 12-month period.
Maintenance Repairer 1 – Classified WAE rate of pay: $17.18/hr
Maintenance Repairer 2 – Classified WAE rate of pay: $19.67/hr

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.
NOTE:
Custodial building maintenance is not qualifying.
Examples of building construction trades include cabinetmaker, carpenter, concrete finisher, electrician, HVAC controls technician, HVAC mechanic, ironworker, millwright, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, refrigeration mechanic, roofer, sheet metal worker, steamfitter, tile setter and welder.
Examples of building maintenance include Maintenance Repairer 1/2, B/G/E Maintenance Repairer 1/2 and Maintenance Repair Foreman.
Examples of repair/maintenance of mechanical equipment include Operating Engineer 1/2, auto mechanic, Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic and Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic.

Examples of Work
AS A MAINTENANCE REPAIRER
Makes minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities and maintains furniture and equipment employing basic skills in the plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and related fields.
Maintains and makes minor repairs to small lawn mowers, appliances, chainsaws, pumps, cars, and tractors including lubricant levels, timing, replacing, and adjusting minor worn or damaged parts (belts, plugs, fuses, hoses, etc.).
Cleans and replaces filters on window air conditioners and simple central heating and air conditioning systems.
Starts, operates, and checks for safety and maintenance of a wide variety of small engines, lawn mowers, hand tools, pumps, chainsaws, pick up trucks, tractors, farm machinery, and implements.
Performs basic road maintenance by clearing drainage, spreading road surface material, filling pot holes, placement of signs, repairing fences, removing trees, etc.
Makes minor repairs to navigational locks such as replacing hydraulic hoses.
AS A MARINE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER
Performs minor repairs on marine vessels.
Performs general maintenance on all marine facilities.
Participates in the painting, pipefitting, carpentry, sand blasting, and electrical repair of marine vessels and related equipment.
Performs minor maintenance on all assigned equipment.
Performs other duties or assignments as directed by Marine Foreman or Marine Maintenance Superintendent.
