TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a knowledgeable and detail-focused Maintenance of Equipment Help Desk Foreman in Menlo Park, CA to join our team. The Help Desk Foreman is responsible for providing technical support for the Caltrain rolling stock fleet within the Central Control Facility – Dispatch office.
The pay rate for this position is $42.00 per hour.
Main Duties:
- Provide technical support during revenue operations to train crews, dispatchers, managers, and Mechanical Department staff on the legacy fleet and new Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trainsets to ensure optimum service levels are maintained.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot enroute problems in electrical, mechanical, brake, and door systems and communicate resolution(s) to the train crews and/or dispatchers.
- Track and log failure information into the database system – including opening work orders.
- Assist in identifying trends related to mechanical failures.
- Provide daily reports and perform shift turnovers with other personnel.
- May be required to provide assistance in the field to a disabled train.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- 5-10 years of experience inspecting and maintaining passenger commuter rail equipment – including EMUs, locomotives, coaches, and cab cars.
- Ten or more years of relevant experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in railroad rolling stock maintenance in technical roles involving inspections, commissioning new rolling stock, troubleshooting, and turnaround servicing. The experience should include equipment maintenance, sanitary systems, power doors, and HVAC, or equivalent experience in another industry.
- Ability to independently resolve technical problems and be proficient in technical correspondence.
- Capable of effectively working with office professionals and craft personnel.
- An electrical background is preferred.
- Familiar with the FRA regulatory requirements related to Rolling Stock (49 CFR Parts 216, 221, 223, 227, 229, 231, and 233).
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Must have a QMP certification.
- Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a superior working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and/or situations in a high-paced environment.
- Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively to communicate resolutions either over the radio or telephone.
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite - i.e. PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
