Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic/Stationary Engineer shall operate and maintain the equipment, systems and machines for which the Chief Engineer is responsible, under the supervision of the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer.
Essential Functions
- Maintain and repair all production equipment: pumps, Pasteurizers, homogenizers, atomizers, evaporators, dryers, churns, valves, baggers, etc.
- Maintain and repair all support equipment: boiler, air-compressors, ammonia compressors, thermal storage units, condensers, vacuum pumps, ammonia systems, air conditioning units, sewer meters, conductivity meters, water meters, etc.
- Must have a working knowledge of and experience in plant maintenance operations.
- Handling of chemicals for support equipment operation. Chemical testing of boiler feed water, condensate, cooling tower water, ice bank chilled water, plant process water.
- Daily utilities reading.
- Fabrication and manufacturing of equipment for production needs; product and process piping, sanitary equipment, steam lines, chemical lines, pneumatic lines, etc.
- Documentation of all schematic and diagram changes to keep plant record current.
- Responsible for reporting daily work orders and activity reports.
- Responsible for all work being done in a timely fashion and done properly.
It is necessary that maintenance engineers work well with employees throughout the plant. - Follow all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and conducive work environment.
- Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with California Dairies, Inc. best interests.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

- Must possess or be able to acquire and maintain a forklift operator license.
Education and/or Experience
- One to three years preferred related experience.
- Technical/other training or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- High School diploma/GED
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computational skills required.
- Simple math reasoning required.
- Minimum two years’ experience in a production setting involving electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical.
- Required to attend two classes per year to improve their skills or as often as such classes are offered by the Union.
Language Skills
A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed.
Reasoning Ability
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or
diagram form. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the
corporation.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess or be able to acquire and maintain a forklift operator license.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Sitting/Standing/Walking Each workday, the engineer during the course of an 8-hour workday will do all
three. They will walk several hundred feet over uneven surfaces checking buildings and machines for needed
repairs.
Lifting/Carrying: Each workday, the engineer lifts up to 60lbs on a frequent basis and 80lbs on an
occasional basis.
Pushing/Pulling: Each workday, frequent pushing/pulling is done while using mechanic tools and
equipment.
Bending/Stooping: Both are done regularly during the course of the workday.
Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Each workday, squatting and kneeling are done frequently. Crawling is
done occasionally.
Twisting/Turning: Each workday frequent twisting and kneeling are done while doing regular maintenance
duties.
Climbing/Balancing: Some vertical ladder climbing is required. Balancing on ladders and machinery
required while doing maintenance and installation of equipment.
Reaching: Each workday, frequent reaching from floor level to shoulder level done.
Grasping/Manipulating: Each workday, frequent use of hands and fingers while using hand tools and
positioning of machine parts.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employees will be subject to temperatures associated with an air-cooled room. Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.
Employee will be subject to temperate from 34 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months for very short periods of time. An employee may come into contact with the following: ammonia, acids, caustics, chlorines, paints, particles, oils, and lubricants, steam, pneumatics, fumes and hazardous gases, sealing compounds.
