The Maintenance Manager is a key strategic leader responsible for driving continuous process and people improvements across the maintenance teams at the Valley and Columbus sites. This role ensures the operational reliability and safety of all production systems and equipment by overseeing effective planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance activities. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, the Maintenance Manager serves as a business partner to Operations, Lean, and Safety teams, working collaboratively to deliver superior results in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). The role is accountable for the performance of the maintenance teams across both sites, ensuring they meet SQDC targets while maintaining high standards of efficiency, reliability, and compliance. Leading through Supervisors, the Maintenance Manager will guide a team of up to 35-40 technicians and manage the maintenance schedulers, driving improvements in operational performance, minimizing downtime, and ensuring sustainability in maintenance practices.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to Sr. Plant Manager and has approximately 5 direct reports and approximately 35 indirect reports covering 24/7 operations for 2 locations.
- Manages maintenance department operations to ensure proper support of manufacturing equipment, buildings, grounds, and related equipment.
- Review and evaluate new processes and support equipment for the manufacturing operation. Recommend new additions/modifications to existing equipment to improve efficiencies, reliability, or safety characteristics.
- Prepare operating, supply and capital budgets as requested. Coordinate all approved capital equipment projects, and support team efforts to maintain project expenses within approved budgets. Assist in the preparation of project appropriation requests.
- Review equipment, facilities, and related areas and establish priorities for maintenance and capital expenditures.
- Review equipment design and installed safety devices for effectiveness. Make recommendations for equipment or building modifications as needed to improve safety of operation or design. Review as appropriate operating procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations
- Design and implement a preventive maintenance and non-destructive inspection program for all manufacturing, auxiliary, power generation, HVAC, material handling and other related mechanical/electrical equipment.
- Review equipment inventory and determine proper levels of spare parts support. Design and implement systems to requisition, store, and control, distribute and replenish high priority spare parts, operating supplies and consumable items Plans, schedules, and directs staff of skilled and unskilled employees in the maintenance of production areas and repair yards. Ensures that all systems are fully operational and inspected in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules. Plans and coordinates preventative maintenance, facility and equipment repair, and preventative maintenance. Prepares cost estimates for maintenance jobs and inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Ensure that plant, property and equipment are kept in excellent condition
- Oversee implementation of plant improvement projects
- Ensure equipment operates with maximum uptime and efficiency to help increase manufacturing productivity
- Plans, directs and inspects Maintenance Planning functions for Corrective Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance
- Build and maintain a strong business relationship with internal and external contractor partners. Requesting and assessing bids to complete necessary work. Ensure work is completed in a safe and productive manner.
Other Important Details about the Role:
- Make recommendations for capital expenditures to optimize the benefits for personnel, materials, and equipment
- Ensure plant is in compliance with all federal and state guidelines to minimize the frequency and severity of industrial safety incidents and maintain environmental requirements
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- High school diploma and 10+ years of relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or Bachelors with 6+ years of relevant experience
- Must possess a demonstrated engineering, mechanical, electrical and technical aptitude in addition to the ability to properly organize and manage personnel in the maintenance support of all manufacturing operations.
- Ability to work from Columbus, NE manufacturing facility at least 1 day per week.
- Must be familiar with basic plant and auxiliary equipment as well as current safety, operational and environmental requirements.
- Should possess a high degree of flexibility to meet multiple priorities on various tasks for several departments to meet the needs of production schedules and manufacturing requirements.
- Proficient using MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Familiarity with statistical quality tools including Pareto, histogram, process mapping, process capability and SPC
- Strong leadership, problem solving, planning, communication, and motivational skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
- The trait of being organized or following a systemic method of performing a task
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Bachelor’s or Associates Degree
- Previous Maintenance supervisory experience in a metal fabrication facility.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
The Maintenance Manager works primarily in an office setting, with equal time being spent in different areas of production floor and shipping yard. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. This position will require long days to support the Maintenance program for a multi-site, four shift, seven day a week operation. The employee needs to be able to understand, work and follow the safety rules of all areas of the facility including the use of personal protective equipment where required.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
