The Hopewell Power Station is a biomass facility situated in Hopewell, VA, with a capacity of 51 MW. It employs biomass-fired power generation technology to produce electricity, which is sold to Dominion. Additionally, the facility processes steam for sale. By utilizing biomass as a fuel source, the Hopewell Power Station plays a crucial role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels while contributing to the generation of renewable energy.
Opportunity Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment. The Maintenance Manager manages the implementation of the plant's Maintenance Program and identifies those items which need improvement or additional work. The Maintenance Manager works with the plant operating staff to assure plant facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition at all times.
Primary Duties
Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions:
Overseeing Maintenance Personnel Activities: Supervise maintenance personnel to ensure safe and efficient execution of maintenance and repair tasks, consistent with company policies, procedures, and technical specifications outlined in the station maintenance manual
Troubleshooting and Repairs: Oversee troubleshooting and repair efforts for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems. Collaborate with internal and external resources to promptly address complex technical issues.
Developing Maintenance Plans: Create and manage maintenance plans for all biomass facility equipment and systems, including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems. Ensure schedules are optimized to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
Managing Preventive and Predictive Maintenance: Administer the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, maintaining records of equipment failures and providing trend analysis to the Plant Manager.
Ensuring NERC Compliance: Partner with the station NERC coordinator to ensure timely completion of NERC-required testing. Ensure proper documentation of completed tests by coordinating with the NERC coordinator.
Leading Maintenance Team: Lead and guide a team of maintenance technicians and engineers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and regulations.
Scheduling Maintenance Tasks: Provide task lists and schedules for maintenance personnel and contractors during normal operations, planned outages, and forced outage situations.
Maintaining Documentation: Keep the plant's Maintenance Manual up-to-date and properly file vendor maintenance and repair manuals.
Promoting Safety: Uphold safety procedures and goals within the maintenance team. Collaborate with the Safety Manager to ensure contractor compliance with safety evaluations before on-site activities commence.
Coordinating with Warehouse/Buyer: Collaborate with the Warehouse/Buyer responsible for inventory management and network administration.
Employee Management: Maintain morale and motivation among maintenance personnel. Address employee grievances as they arise.

Working Relationships
The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Manager cooperates with the Operations Manager, Compliance Manager, and Administrative Manager as needed in the daily operation of the plant.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Power plant environment which entails working conditions that may include extreme hot or cold temperatures, confined spaces, working at extreme heights and on grating, and working around heavy equipment, pressurized, and energized equipment. Both indoor and outdoor work are part of the job requirements. Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Respirator qualified required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
Compensation
Initial starting compensation will range from $135,000 to $145,000.
Job Qualifications
- Extensive power plant maintenance technical and leadership experience with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.
- A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience is desired.
- Strong leadership skills to effectively lead and guide a team of maintenance technicians and engineers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and regulations.
- Experience in maintaining morale and motivation among maintenance personnel, addressing employee grievances, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Expertise in maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems commonly found in biomass facilities, including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Understanding of biomass power generation processes and equipment to effectively oversee troubleshooting and repair efforts.
- Proven experience in developing and managing maintenance plans for equipment and systems in a biomass facility, including scheduling preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
- Ability to optimize maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability, ensuring efficient operation of the facility.
- Strong electrical and microprocessor-based control background, strong rotating equipment experience and an ability to use computer-based preventive and predictive maintenance tools desired.
- Familiarity with NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) requirements and regulations relevant to biomass power plants.
- Skilled in CMMS utilization for maintenance optimization, task scheduling, data analysis, and enhancing equipment reliability through effective coordination with maintenance teams and stakeholders.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
