Position Summary
This position is responsible for general maintenance and upkeep for all agency buildings and maintenance requests. This position performs preventative maintenance tasks, basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry work; and janitorial duties.
8am 4pm Mon; Wed & Friday
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance plans for all buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicles.
- Complete building work orders in a timely manner and provide daily updates on maintenance and repair issues on all areas of responsibilities.
- Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, repairs, and other assigned tasks, example apartment turnovers.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly stored and organized.
- Work with Chief Maintenance Engineer in planning and executing on-going building maintenance and improvements.
- Work with Chief Maintenance Engineer to monitor and maintain an inventory control system of equipment and supplies. This includes procurement of supplies from off-site vendors.
- Work with vendors and others as appropriate to complete work orders and provide proper documentation.
Janitorial
- Perform janitorial duties as needed.
Other
- Maintain required professional knowledge and job skills. Attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.
- Represent Deborah's Place mission and values to participants, visitors and others.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
Required Licensure and/or Certification: HVAC Certification preferred
Job Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a maintenance engineer; 3-5 years of experience in property management, preferably with homeless population; experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, etc.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions and percentages
Special Knowledge & Skills: Excellent organizational and follow-up skills; ability to read reports, operating manuals, and schematics; ability to detect equipment and motor malfunctions; strong oral and written communication skills; excellent engagement and interpersonal skills; ability to read reports, operating manuals, blue prints and schematics; computer literacy including email, internet and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; Computer competency including Microsoft Office applications and property management software; Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and response effectively in emergency situations. Valid Illinois driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation
