R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects throughout the southeast - since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway Project providing machinery and facility maintenance and repair on nearly 200 miles of waterway and 9 locks/dams/spillways on the system. Position is based in Tuscaloosa, AL. R&D is an EEO Employer.

General Description:
Performs the full range of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy. Work includes (but is not limited to): installing or repairing electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit/wiring systems, or other transmission equipment; working from schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; completing standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of standard and specialized hand and power tools and measuring/testing instruments.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electrical equipment including electric motors, electric circuits, conduit, wiring transformers, generators, lights, fixtures, bulbs, tubes, motor control systems and meters.
- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Adjust and repairs lock control limit switches.
- Repairs and maintains cathodic protection.
- Repairs panel boards in the lock control buildings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in the electrical trade.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret national electrical codes.
- Ability to plan and schedule multiple tasks and effectively prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; analyze and solve problems; make decisions; exercise good judgment; perform well under pressure; adapt well to change.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must have knowledge of and mathematical ability to perform required calculations.
- Ability to demonstrate overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines.
- Ability to operate an manlift, forklift, and/or bucket lift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or formal training in electrical or electronic work
- Must have five (5) years of experience in heavy industrial electrical work
- Must have one (1) year of high voltage experience
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings and schematics.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have knowledge of applicable codes and mathematical ability to perform required calculations.
- Ability to demonstrate overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines
- Required to successfully complete background check, MVR, and drug/alcohol screenings.
- Some field travel and occasional overtime. Occasional overnight stays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent walking and standing.
- Frequently lifts/carries up to 20 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional pulling up to 20 pounds.
- Frequently climbing ladders and working at heights;
- Frequent use of power and hand tools;
- Frequent balancing, kneeling, reaching (full range) bending, handling, feeling, climbing, smelling and twisting; occasional crawling and reaching; working in cramped and confined spaces;
