Job Summary:
The purpose of the Electrician is to be responsible for assisting as needed in miscellaneous electrician jobs across the department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain facility and production electrical systems, supporting installation and maintenance efforts.
- Plan, layout and install electrical support for new and existing equipment.
- Design, build, and program electronic controls and equipment, including PLCs, motion control devices, and other automated controls.
- Troubleshooting and repair of industrial electric equipment; motors, servos, pumps, drives, relays, communication devices, electronic controls, and power transmission systems.
- Perform and/or oversee the preventive maintenance of electrical structure.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and electronic circuitry and related components associated with the operation of facility equipment.
- Utilize electrical ladder diagrams, electronic circuitry diagrams, and software programs to modify, repair, or improve equipment functionality
- Utilize a variety of tools such as mechanical hand tools, power tools, electrical/electronic test equipment, and calibration equipment.
- Work from mechanical drawings and electrical schematics to assess needs and build controls to operate the system.
- Develop concepts, specifications, and drawings of complicated electronic and automation projects.
- Work with and direct vendors concerning electrical projects.
- Assist with projects in reference to electrical support and other help when directed
Performance Expectations (if applicable):
- Lifting is required of tools and parts from 1 to 100 pounds.
- Standing is required, varies per shift.
- Reaching is required, varies per shift.
- Stooping is required, varies per shift.
- Bending is required, varies per shift.
- Must be able to operate hand tools, power tools, meters, etc.
- Must be able to distinguish wire color differences.
- Must be able to operate lift truck.
Experience/Education Requirements:
- Degree in Electronic/Electrical Technology and/or Process Automation preferred.
- An electrician license is desirable
- An operational knowledge of automated industrial preferred.
- Ability to read and understand schematics, mechanical drawings, and other technical documentation used in troubleshooting and setup of industrial equipment.
- Must be able to interpret electrical and mechanical situations to determine process failure, needs, and improvements.
- Know the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the electrician’s trade.
- Must be able to read and write English
- Must have education/experience with programmable logic controllers
Other Requirements:
- Overtime is required on occasion.
- Normal mobility, no abnormal fear of heights or confined spaces.
- Must understand and abide by safety and code standards such as Lockout /Tag out, Arc Flash procedures and the National Electrical Code.
- Need to be self-motivated and recognize opportunities for preventative maintenance
- Must possess routine hand tools used by an electronic technician or electrician.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Electrician or Manager of Facilities.
