We are hiring a Director of Physical Plant (Maintenance) to join our dynamic care team at Bayview Health Care in Waterford!

In this department head role, you plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the maintenance department to ensure that our facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.
Education & Experience:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity, in maintenance/plant related position preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable of boilers, compressors, generators, etc., as well as various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
- Must have ability to read and interpret blueprints and be knowledgeable in building codes and safety regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Meet the maintenance needs of the facility.
- Recognize hazards to residents or staff safety and take appropriate action to maintain safe environment according to facility policy and procedures.
- Replace, repair and purchase items according to facility policy and procedure.
- Plan and implement preventive maintenance program and document accurately.
- Maintain weather protection against cold, heat, fire and other hazards.
- Supervise outside contractors.
- Serve on-call for emergency and off-duty hours.
- Perform errands and tasks as required.
- Maintain upkeep of exterior of building and grounds in all weather conditions.
- Demonstrate and teach correct safety techniques, in accord with company policy and prior training.
- Is knowledgeable in and ensures staff comply with Privacy Practices to protect residents’ health information.
Specific Requirements:
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Must be licensed in accordance with current applicable standards, codes, labor laws, etc.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of maintenance practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing maintenance functions in the long-term care facility.
- Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and to supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the maintenance department.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of maintenance areas, must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for order, safety and proper performance of equipment.
- Must maintain regular inspections of resident and non-resident areas for sanitation, order, safety, and employees proper performance duties.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
- Must possess the ability to plan and carry out programs in repair, new construction, and equipment installation.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
- Possess sufficient mechanical abilities to handle facility maintenance needs with little outside contract use.
