PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district. Maintain district structures and fixtures in attractive and safe condition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School diploma or equivalency preferred
Certification / License:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry
Properly use and maintain all tools used in this trade
Knowledge of the proper use of different types of wood
Understand, follow, and/or transmit oral and written instructions
Read blueprints and diagrams
Measure and perform mathematical calculations
Work independently; self-motivated, detail oriented, and to be able to carry out assignments independently
Perform basic computer skills
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard carpentry equipment including small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, crawling, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, working on a scissor lift, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis; required to lift or exert force of up to 100 pounds
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, and vibrations; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; maintain emotional control under stress
Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Three years experience working in the carpentry or construction trade desired.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Perform basic framing, firewalls, and installing drywall.
- Perform installation of windows and doors.
- Interior Systems, including: installation of drywall, insulation, acoustical ceilings, moveable partitions, access panel systems, fixture work.
- Rough Framing, including: floors, beams, joists, wall columns, etc.; rough framing for floor framing, wall framing, metal studs, drywall application, etc.
- Exterior Finishing, including: application of cornice and outside wall trim, setting door and window frames and trim.
- Erect scaffolding correctly and know terms and safety guidelines of the scaffolding.
- Read blueprints and schematics correctly; work from sketches and verbal instructions
- Measure accurately; calculate dimensions; estimate materials.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
