Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will maintain, sharpen, and perform preventative maintenance on dies and tooling, ensuring they meet print specifications. You will be responsible for machining duties, heat treating cutting tools, and mentoring other associates in machining practices. As a key member of the team, you will help foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement while maintaining strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain dies and tooling to print specifications.
- Sharpen and shim dies with supervision and support from a Toolroom Associate/Manager.
- Heat treat cutting tools to meet print specifications.
- Perform machining duties as assigned and mentor other associates in machining practices.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on dies per the schedule.
- Ensure commitments to internal and external customers are met and address any concerns to their satisfaction.
- Take full ownership of responsibilities, focusing on customer satisfaction and accountability.
- Understand and adhere to NSC’s Quality Management System.
- Actively seek and implement improvements to processes, problem-solving and driving continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude.

Job Specific Competencies:
- Ability to produce parts on a lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, and drill press within tight tolerances (e.g., .001" tolerance for lathe and milling machine).
- Proficient with hardness testers, heat treat processes, and hole poppers.
- Skilled in using measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other tools.
- Strong mathematical ability, including trigonometry, for accurate measurements.
- Capable of performing benchwork and interpreting blueprints.
- Experience with basic Quality Control, inspection techniques, and managing nonconforming materials.
- Knowledge of GD&T and SOP adherence.
- Time management and effective handling of work assignments.
- Excellent 5S housekeeping practices in the work area.

Experience & Education Required:
- 6 years of relevant experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform overhead reaching or heavy lifting for 10-12 hours.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
