Thorough knowledge of machine shop equipment and have at least 5 years’ experience working with manual lathes, mills, and grinders
Overview
The Machinist plays a crucial role in the manufacturing and engineering sector, specializing in the operation and maintenance of machining tools, primarily to create precision parts and components. This role involves transforming raw materials into finished products by utilizing a variety of computer-controlled and manual techniques. Machinists ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards through careful attention to detail and a strong understanding of mechanical principles. Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate various machining tools including lathes, mills, and grinders.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine specifications.
Measure, cut, and shape metal and other materials according to specified dimensions.
Conduct quality checks using precision measuring instruments.
Perform routine maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
Adjust machine settings based on the material and required specifications.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining problems and malfunctions.
Collaborate with engineers and other team members on design improvements.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Document production processes and record results for quality assurance.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
Train and mentor apprentices or junior machinists as necessary.
Work efficiently to meet tight production deadlines.
Utilize CAD software for programming CNC machines.
Maintain inventory of tools and materials needed for machining tasks.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certification preferred.
Proven experience as a machinist or in a related field.
Strong understanding of machining principles and practices.
Proficiency in operating CNC machines and manual lathes or mills.
Familiarity with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Basic computer skills, including knowledge of CAD software.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of metal properties and machining processes.
Demonstrated understanding of safety protocols in the workplace.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.
