The Place:Maccabi Sports Camp is an overnight specialty camp with programs across multiple sports in a Jewish environment for children entering grades 3-11. Our sessions combine high-level specialized sports instruction with the fun, friendship, and community of a traditional overnight camp. Dates of Camp: Monday, June 9, 2025 – Tuesday, July 29, 2025
Pay Range: $6,000-$9,000 stipend for camp session (6/9/25-7/29/25) housing and meals provided on site potential travel stipend
The Job:Are you an energetic and organized athletic enthusiast who is passionate about working with young athletes in an engaging summer camp environment? If so, this this might be the job for you! As the Athletic Director you will work under the direction of our Camp Directors, serving as a member of our seasonal leadership team. You will oversee the heart of our camp program (core sports), ensure the successful execution of all aspects of our athletic program and serve as a liaison between our Head Coaches and the leadership team while also serving as the Head Coach for our Multi-Sport track. Most importantly, you will be a leader in creating a safe, fun and engaging environment for all of our campers to have the time of their lives.
The ideal candidate loves sports, is a self-starter, has experience managing athletic programs and coaching in a direct service capacity. The Athletic Director must be extremely organized, compassionate, approachable, and comfortable working in a small team environment. The Athletic Director must have significant experience coaching and administering athletics and should have a desire to participate in all camp activities.
This position requires you to live on campus and reside in the dorms alongside the campers.This is a seasonal, temporary position that requires a commitment to the full summer schedule.Food, lodging, camp gear, comprehensive staff training, and days off are included as part of the compensation package.
The Core Duties:
- Oversee the Core Sports aspect of the camp program, with support from the Camp Directors
- Serve as a liaison between Head Coaches and Leadership Staff, communicating around topics such as daily expectations, time management, schedule or facility changes, practice plans, camper issues, equipment needs, or other relevant matters
- Manage 2nd Sport (Electives), including scheduling, staffing, cabin requests, and supplies
- Assist in the planning and execution of other camp programs and special events like Maccabi Cup, Yalla Sababa (camp wide Ultimate Frisbee tournament), etc.
- Ensure proper communication and supervision is being provided by Head Coaches to their assistants, helping to address any issues that arise
The Essentials:
- 3 years of coaching at the collegiate, high school, or competitive youth level
- Experience working with youth in a structured environment, preferably in youth sports or camp
- Ability to support core Jewish values of the camp
- Compassionate, enthusiastic, patient, and hard working
- Ability to manage a team of Assistant Coaches and work as both part of a team and independently
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience required
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certified (training will be provided at camp)
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information clearly (written and oral)
