Summary:

The LPN in the physician office practices is responsible for assisting the physician and other staff so the office runs efficiently.  The LPN provides direct patient care services such as routine vital signs and gathers pertinent medical history.  The LPN educates and prepares the patient for office procedures and assists the doctor in the collection and preparation of specimens.  The LPN is responsible for collecting the appropriate informed consent forms and preparation of the surgical packet.  Upon the physician’s written order, administers injections.  Based on plans of care established by the physician, the LPN is responsible for notifying the patient of test results and the recommended plan of care.  The LPN maintains a basic knowledge of current medications associated with their field of practice.  The LPN maintains a basic knowledge of procedures and technology related to their field of practice.  The LPN works independently based on established guidelines and within the scope of assigned authority and licensure.  In the absence of the physician, the LPN may make decisions to affect timely patient care and ensure the smooth flow of office procedures.

Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

 

1. LPN license.  Two years experience in the medical office setting preferred.
2. Current BCLS required.
3. Knowledge of triage parameters preferred.
4. Operating knowledge of basic business machines, including computers.
5. General filing knowledge and ability to operate basic office machines.
6. Able to handle money, patient bills and perform simple mathematical equations.
7. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables when only limited standardization exists.
8. Ability to recognize potential problems and report items to the office coordinator or physician.
9. Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.
10. Able to remember multiple messages, information and task assignment for up to an assigned shift.
11. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
12. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
13. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
14. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be met.
15. Able to transfer up to 125 pounds, with assistance, while lifting, positioning and transferring patients.
