JOB DESCRIPTION
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care in accordance with established nursing policies and procedures. He/she is also responsible for providing a positive, caring and homelike environment for the residents.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing and currently licensed in the state of Florida.
2. Completion of all required training courses.
3. At least 18 year of age.
4. Neat and professional in appearance.

· Ability to communicate in a clear and courteous manner.
· Ability to speak, read and write in the English language.
· Ability to problem solve within the scope of role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
· Ensures that residents are treated with dignity, kindness and respect; maintains residents’ privacy and confidentiality and adheres to resident’sbill of rights at all times.
· Provides professional nursing care to assigned residents.
· Contributes in determining, implementing and modifying residents plan of care as needed.
· Administers and documents residents’ medications· and treatments in accordance with plan of care and company policy and immediately reports any discrepancies in narcotics to supervisor.
· Maintains and monitors intravenous infusion and may also initiate IV if appropriately certified.
· Maintains working knowledge of all assigned residents’ conditions and needs.
· Maintains a professional relationship with physicians and assists during examinations and treatments.
· Observes and immediately reports any changes in residents and any incidents or
· accidents involving residents.
· Documents accurately and consistently all observations and nursing care pertaining to assigned residents.
· Assists in evaluating and determining appropriate utilization of staff for maximum resident benefit.
· Performs any first aid required for residents.
· Participates in restorative nursing programs as designated in residents plan of care.
· Orders medications and supplies as directed by supervisor.
· Interacts with residents and family members as needed to determine and resolve any special needs and concerns.
· Makes rounds at least twice per shift to observe, evaluate and report on any changes in residents.
· Maintains a clean, orderly, sanitary and safe environment for residents at all times.
· Participates in reality orientation daily with residents.
· Respond to residents call buttons as needed.
· Assists in establishing company and CQI policies and procedures that will enhance residents care and safety and participates in executing those policies.
· Participates in ongoing education and training and encourages staff involvement.
· Uses protective clothing as needed.
· Ensures that established precautionary procedures are followed at all times.
· Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor immediately.
· Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately and in the shift in which they occur.
