Position SummaryThe Pingry School is seeking dedicated and flexible Lower School Substitute Teachers to join our substitute team for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidates will have a passion for working with children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 and will be available on an as-needed basis to cover teacher absences. This role requires the ability to adapt quickly, maintain classroom management, and deliver lesson plans effectively in a warm, supportive environment. This role is on our Short Hills, New Jersey campus and the per-diem compensation is $140 per day.Responsibilities
- Substitute teachers are called in on an as-needed basis and must be flexible with their availability. The schedule may vary depending on the specific needs of the school.
- Must be able to work the full school day from 7:45am to 3:45pm.
- Support the teacher by implementing the daily curriculum for the assigned grade level.
- Create and maintain a positive, structured learning environment.
- Hold students to high academic and behavior standards consistent with The Pingry School Mission and Honor Code.
- Hold students accountable during class time, transitions, meals, recess time, and other learning opportunities that may be assigned to the substitute educator.
- Collaborate with other teachers to ensure a safe environment for all students.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; however, we will also consider candidates currently pursuing an educational degree, particularly those in their senior year. A Master's degree and previous classroom teaching experience are preferred.
- Enthusiasm for working with students.
- Experience working with elementary aged students.
- Ability to follow instructions and execute lesson plans with little preparation time.
- Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
- Ability to work with students both in-person and virtually.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
- Comfort with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Google Classroom and Zoom.
- Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the department and school community, including working hours based upon the school's rotating schedule.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and pillars of the Pingry School, including a commitment to DEIB and the requisite skills to work cross-functionally with diverse constituency groups across the organization.
