POSITION SUMMARY:
The Logistics Manager will oversee all areas of the operation from the point when merchandise has been picked and staged on the dock in the warehouse, all the way through the delivery process to the retailer/customer. Effectively, the Logistics Manager is running a $10-$15M shipping and transportation business. This includes strategic operational execution, P&L management, long term capital planning, as well as safety and compliance. As the senior leader of these areas the Logistics Manager will be responsible for strategic planning including setting KPIs and then hiring, developing, and leading the shipping and transportation organization to meet them. This role will serve as the key contact for the RSC transportation operations to internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Make Ace the safest place to drive, by developing and maintaining a safety-first culture in warehouse and on-road operations by setting the tone as leader by establishing and coaching adherence to SOPs and policies. Strategy should include incorporation of training partners (e.g., JJ Keller) and technology partners /systems (e.g., Samsara).
- Lead, support and encourage Ace Values: Winning, Excellence, Love, Integrity, Gratitude, Humility and Teamwork.
- P&L responsibility $10-$15M transportation and shipping operation including budgeting, expense management, and capital planning.
- Maintain compliance with all DOT and other regulatory body requirements as well as internal policies through training, auditing, and coaching as needed with support from the corporate Safety and Compliance team.
- Maintain a positive business relationship by supporting Retail Operations, including Project Management and District Managers as it relates to retailer relations & store needs. Also, is an active participant in store visits and retailers meeting as needed.
- Create and execute strategy to leverage equipment and drivers to drive 3rd party carrier revenue.
- Evaluate effectiveness of current or future logistics strategies, identify cost reduction or process improvement opportunities and lead multiple projects simultaneously that will implement the identified returns.
- Serve as the senior point of contact/escalation for the RSC Traffic team to internal and external stakeholders, especially the Ace retailers.
- Hire, train, develop, and lead the transportation and shipping organization including development of traffic and warehouse leaders as well as effective succession planning.
- Work with Corporate Traffic team to create and execute equipment strategy including short versus long term leases and capital planning in collaboration with corporate team.
- Coordinate with Ace corporate team as needed for support with systems, coaching, training, safety and compliance initiatives, and new strategic projects.
- Oversee the development and ongoing evaluation of standard work instructions in support of core team functions to standardize expectations and serve as an on-boarding resource for new leaders and employees.
- Ensure product makes it from the warehouse to the retailers and other customers on-time, in full, and damage free.
- Support contingency planning around holidays or weather and other crisis events to ensure retailers and customers have timely access to the product needed.
- Evaluate and improve network static route plans including the creation and execution of seasonal route strategy to improve efficiency of operations.
- Oversee managing standards for safe loading of product, ensuring the proper use of power equipment for proper stacking of freight in trailer (to include pallets, optis, totes & overlength items
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics/transportation or related field is preferred
- 7+ years of transportation experience required
- 5+ years of leading a staff of both salary and hourly employees required
- 3+ years of leadership experience of a fleet of 20+ drivers preferred
- 2+ years of experience overseeing shipping operations preferred
- Experience working with 3rd party customer or brokers to increase revenue strongly preferred
- Prior experience building and managing a budget with P&L ownership strongly preferred
- Prior experience interfacing with customers/retailers
- Experience with on-board cameras, safety technology companies, and ELD preferred
- Knowledge of FMSCA and Department of Transportation rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Hours of Service and handling of hazardous materials required
- Must possess superior employee relation skills
- Strong leadership, management & strategic thinking required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience with Microsoft office (Word and Excel)
Compensation Details:
$125,000 - $140,000 Annually
