Facilities Operations
The University of St. Thomas, a private university committed tot the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a Locksmith to work in the facilities department. The University enrolls more than 3300 students with its main campus located in Houston's Museum district.
Summary:Under general direction of a supervisor, repairs and installs all types of door hardware to include: locks, door closers, automatic operators, pivots, panic hardware and electronic locks. Maintains a computerized key control system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains, repairs, and installs automatic door openers, locks,closers, alarms etc.
- Cuts keys and sets lock cores; re-combinates locks.
- Maintains a computerized key control system.
- Operates all necessary equipment and tools such as key cutting machine, engraving machine, power tools and computer.
- Assists other shops in obtaining access to areas on campus as needed.
- Works with contractors when new buildings are constructed to get all new doors on University keying system.
- May serve on special task force during periods of emergency, such as floods, storm, hurricanes, etc.
- Participates in a rotating on-call program
- May supervise laborers in some instances.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc.. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
- Requires a valid Texas Drivers License.
- Requires a detailed knowledge of a specialized or technical field. Work requires the direct application of a variety of procedures, policies and/or precedents.
- The knowledge and technology used in the job changes somewhat over time. Work processes are fairly standard however the job does require maintaining abreast of changing technologies in the field.
- Requires the collection or compilation of information or the selection of the appropriate course of action according to routine well-defined methods, procedures or practices. Basic analytical ability is required, as in comparison of numbers and simple facts in selecting the correct action.,
- Activities and decisions are varied in nature, requiring independent action and judgment in solving common problems.
- Unusual cases or questionable matters are resolved with the job's immediate supervisor.
Environmental Conditions
Working Conditions
Work involves considerable exposure (several times a week for approximately 2 to 4 hours at a time) unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.
Physical Effort
Position requires moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds, or standing and /or walking for long periods of time (more than 4 hours per day)
Physical Risk
Work environment requires some exposure to physical risks that require following basic safety precautions.
