Job Description:
- Removing and replacing a variety of two-way RF Subscriber, two-way RF Subscriber and Radio System's equipment, networking, radio and console equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- M5300 multi-mode two-way mobile radios
- Installs Software updates and upgrades, such as SUM and FX, Removal and Replacement as required of existing radios.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance duties and diagnostic of Subscriber and two-way Radio System equipment.
- Communicates directly with customers and local field technicians regarding suggested resolutions for diagnostic of Subscriber and two-way Radio System equipment.
- Proactively troubleshoot Subscriber and two-way Radio System equipment. Understands various two-way Radio System and related equipment.
- Duties can include to perform install, setup, end-to-end system alignment, testing and fault diagnosis during implementation and on operational Land Mobile Radio (LMR) radio networks (P25, Open Sky, EDACS and Conventional), with the aid of PC-based programs, schematics, and other drawings.
- Programming and Installation of mobile radios, antennas, and accessories, perform unit swap and associated tests in a variety of vehicles.
- Mounting, cabling, initial set-up and testing of site equipment, fault isolation and replacement at the unit level.
- Ensure that safety practices are always followed, maintain, and preserve company owned equipment and ensure it is always kept in good repair.
- Complete test records, fault reports, and all other project related documentation and forward to installation supervisor.
- Provide technical assistance to customers and co-workers requiring telephone or on-site support.
- Ideally Land Mobile Radio background with a minimum 3 years' experience
- Minimum of associate degree in an electronics field - computers, networking, RF, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) as well as touch typing.
- Ability to meet internal paperwork requirements for timecard input, expense and PCard reports, and service tickets.
- Ability to travel on short notice locally (less than one day). International travel is not expected.
- Valid driver's license required.
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's license (or APCO or NABER equivalent).
- Cisco Training or Microsoft Networking training / experience.
- Associate degree in an electronics field - Electrical or Electronic Engineering - Computer Science, etc.
- 3 or more years of direct Land Mobile Radio experience on trunked radio systems. Prefer trunked radio experience to be on Harris systems.
- Five or more years of Networking Experience.
- Excellent customer presence as well as verbal and written communication skills to include making customer presentations, writing system documentation documents, and communications involving system installation and operation.
- Work well with internal customers in Project Management, System Engineering, Technical Assistance Center, and others.
Must have at least 2 years of experience working with the following tools/equipment:
- Cable connectors and replacements, including RJ-11, RJ-45, DB-25, V.35, RS-449Fiber optics, Multiplexes, Network topology, Frame Relay, Fractional T-1, SONET Network Technology, ATM, Private Line, Voice, and Data
- Laptops, PCs, Cisco Routers, Sun servers
- Eastern Research DNX, PSX, ISP and LPM products
- Cisco Routers, including model numbers 3662, 3725, 3745, 2950, 4215, 8850's.
- Sun Microsystems equipment
- AC/DC power sources/supplies, including 3 Phase AC and 24VDC & 48VDC power supplies.
- T1 Testing Specifications, DS3 Testing, Digital Testing (BERT), and Analog VG Testing
- Ameritech AM5XT, Sage 935, Digital O-scope, Halcyon 704A, Para-scope "test sets
- Bell Core Standards
- Implement software changes (Upload, Download & SW Regression), installing new software and hardware into various devices.
- Setting configurations on networking equipment, such as Cisco routers
- Any certification, such as a CCNA, CCNP, A+, MCP or MCDST, would be helpful.
- Experience with configuring and operating the Harris Intraplex Chassis and channel cards.
- Ability to be responsive to callouts and periodic "on call" availability including working with centralized control centers.
- A willingness to work outside regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs, and to respond to after-hours emergency calls.
- Should have excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work in high stress and high visibility environment.
