Position: Litigation Paralegal
Location: Remote (must live within commuting distance of Sacramento office for occasional onsite work and trial support)
Pay: $75,000 to $90,000 annually
Experience: 8+ years experience and a high degree of knowledge with federal & state labor and employment laws including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, workplace safety, FEHA claims, wage and hour disputes, and labor codes to work closely with the attorneys in the Labor & Employment practice group.
Type: Full-time; Direct Hire
Schedule: Day Shift, 9:00am to 5:30pm (37.5 hour week, must have flexibility for occasional travel on short notice to the Sacramento office or to trial, after-hours and weekend overtime needed)

Job Description:
- Manage cases and proactively monitor and anticipate attorney needs throughout case progression (inception to close).
- Perform eDiscovery through document review platforms to review for relevance, privilege, redacting as necessary, and creating privilege logs with speed and efficiency.
- Research subject matter using Westlaw, Hein Online, CEB and Rutter Guides, other commercial databases and the internet.
- Perform cite checking, sherardizing and proofreading of briefs and legal documents using guides (style manuals and Bluebook).
- Assist in pleading and discovery processes including drafting documents, research for service of process, ensuring proper service is completed timely, drafting notices and subpoenas, preparing for deposition, propounding and responding to written discovery, preparing for expert discovery, and drafting discovery motions, drafting witness and attorney declarations.
- Perform analytical duties to prepare witness interview memoranda, review/summarize documents (deposition/court transcripts) and prepare/maintain privilege logs.
- Assist with law and motion practice - drafting motion papers, assembling motion papers/exhibits, assisting with filings of pleadings and briefs and ensuring proper service.
- Organize and maintain case-related materials.
- Assist during meetings, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, mediations, and communicate with clients, opposing counsel and court staff.
- Calculate and review docketing dates and ensure proper maintenance of any required case calendars.
- Assist with trial preparation, including preparing trial subpoenas and on-call agreements, determining applicable jury instructions/research, participation in the voir dire process, creating trial notebooks, identifying/organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists and coordinating witness schedules, drafting pre-trial/trial pleadings, maintaining trial calendars and communicating with opposing counsel/courtroom staff.
- Prepare and supervise vendor preparation of graphs and demonstrative exhibits.
- Assist attorneys at trial to maintain trial software/technology.
- Attend administrative proceedings, trials, hearings, depositions or mediations.
- Liaison with practice support teams including directing of data collections/productions.
- Prepare post-litigation documents including judgments, entry of judgments, memorandum of costs and attorney fees motions, abstracts of judgment and collecting on judgments.
- Assemble administrative records and appendices in various courts.
Position Requirements:
- Must be able to interpret and institute in practice various laws, statutes and regulations including civil procedure, rules of court, appellate procedure, discovery act and local rules; Familiarity with appeals and writs is a plus.
- Expertise in one or more areas of the law (i.e., municipal law, toxic tort, writs of mandate, title insurance and real estate) is preferred.
- Proficiency in Westlaw and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required; experience working in Eclipse/IPro, Case Notebook.
- Strong attention to detail; organizational, reasoning and research skills and written/verbal communication abilities are required.
- Flexibility, composure and able to prioritize urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently with little supervision.
- Observe assigned legal practice assistant support to meaningfully contribute and complete an annual performance evaluation.
- Candidates must be proactive and able to manage caseload with clear and concise communication abilities.
- A paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or attorney attestation required to comply with California Business and Professions Code Sections 6450-6456.
- Paralegals are expected to bill 1500 hours per year, to firm client matters (including pro bono matters).
