JOB SUMMARY
Kutak Rock LLP seeks a full-time Litigation Legal Secretary in its Kansas City office. As a member of the litigation team, the Litigation Legal Secretary provides shared support to the litigation department and performs secretarial duties for attorneys and paralegals.
The Kansas City litigation team is comprised of 18 lawyers, two paralegals, and four legal administrative assistants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Type and/or edit legal documents, pleadings, discovery, and correspondence from handwritten, typed drafts, or materials brought over from the web
- Answer telephones and handle client matters, when appropriate, through telephone and email
- Organize, correlate, and edit drafts of documents for attorneys
- Generate, organize, and maintain extensive sets of files and reports
- Scan documents and send/receive via email for attorneys
- Keep record of attorney’s time and expenses and submit to Accounting Department in a timely fashion; recap expense memoranda and other miscellaneous accounting projects as assigned
- Maintain calendars by scheduling appointments for conferences and meetings
- Maintain client files and transcripts
- Arrange business itineraries by coordinating travel reservations
- Read and route incoming and internal mail; assemble large mailings
- Proofread documents for changes to be made before the final copy is produced
- Assist with other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; aptitude to interface with lawyers,
clients, and staff - Keen attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to handle the workload for multiple attorneys
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Adaptability to each attorney’s working style
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of PC and Windows applications
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and other Office 365 products
- Proficiency in Casenet, Pacer and eFlex
QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience
- High School or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- Experience in legal secretarial field preferred
