Litigation Legal Assistant
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to support attorneys and paralegals in all aspects of litigation. This role involves the discovery process, document management, and maintaining electronic case files. The ideal candidate will possess specialized knowledge in legal documentation, terminology, civil procedures, discovery, and court systems.
Major Responsibilities:
- Compose and prepare legal documents and correspondence, requiring knowledge of legal terminology, civil procedure, and discovery.
- Open and maintain legal files according to firm policies and accepted practices.
- Assist in case management and litigation tracking.
- Format briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents; proficient in both traditional and electronic filing.
- Maintain attorney calendars by scheduling conferences, teleconferences, depositions, and travel. Monitor court appearance dates, pleadings, filing requirements, evidence-gathering, and discovery responses.
- Document and input attorney reimbursable expenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the job scope.
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong proofreading, grammar, and editing abilities.
- Responsible, organized, detail-oriented, and a proactive problem solver.
- Knowledgeable in federal and state court filings, including e-filing; ability to generate TOC and TOA.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Professional; knowledge of SurePoint and Concur is a plus.
- High production skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional interaction with all levels of employees.
- Good judgment in decision-making appropriate to the level of responsibilities.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new skills and systems.
Education, Experience, and/or Training:
- Experience with Asbestos Litigation is a plus.
- Minimum of five years of litigation legal support experience.
