A prestigious national trial defense law firm, renowned for its success in high-exposure healthcare law cases, is seeking a skilled Litigation Legal Assistant to join its team in Carlsbad. This position offers a salary range of $55-75k DOE and operates on a 37.5-hour work week. The office has a strong focus on culture, blending mid-size firm resources with a boutique firm feel.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Calendar Management: Maintain attorneys' calendars, including docketing court appearances, meetings, depositions, and deadlines.
- Scheduling: Arrange court appearances, client meetings, depositions, and other engagements, ensuring no scheduling conflicts and notifying attorneys of pending deadlines.
- Document Preparation and Filing: Prepare and file pleadings and other court documents, serving all appropriate parties.
- Correspondence Generation: Generate all necessary correspondence related to cases.
- Mail Management: Assist with logging and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.
- File Maintenance: Create and maintain client files, records, logs, and other case-related information.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant within a law firm, ideally in medical malpractice defense litigation or other defense litigation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
- Familiarity with the functions and jurisdictions of local, state, and federal courts, including filing requirements.
- High proficiency in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), billing software, and online document management software.
- Familiarity with electronic filing procedures in state and federal courts.
- Experience in creating and maintaining documents, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, and copying, as well as coordinating case preparation.
- Proficient in tracking billing hours through billing software.
