About the Job
A well-established regional firm in California seeks Litigation Associates to join its Water Law and Public Law department in its Los Angeles office. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience with water rights, SGMA, and groundwater litigation and experience representing public entities on various public law matters. The firm welcomes candidates with a general civil litigation background interested in Water Law and Public Law, offering comprehensive training and support. Responsibilities:
- Handle all aspects of litigation from case inception through trial and appeal, focusing on water law and public law disputes
- Develop and implement effective litigation strategies, conduct legal research, and prepare and file pleadings, motions, and other court documents
- Manage case files, ensuring that all documents are well-organized and deadlines are met
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing case updates and addressing any concerns
- Conduct client interviews to gather relevant information and documents related to water rights and public law issues
- Advise clients on legal options and strategies to achieve their objectives in compliance with relevant regulations and public policies
- Conduct thorough discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and depositions
- Investigate facts, gather evidence, and interview witnesses to build strong cases in water law and public law disputes
- Analyze and summarize deposition transcripts, regulatory records, and other pertinent documents
- Prepare for and represent clients in court hearings, administrative hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Draft and argue motions, including motions for summary judgment, motions to dismiss, and other pre-trial and post-trial motions
- Prepare witnesses and clients for depositions and trial testimony, focusing on water law and public policy issues
- Conduct extensive legal research to stay current on water law, environmental regulations, public policy, and administrative law
- Draft clear and persuasive legal documents, including briefs, memoranda, and legal opinions related to water and public law
- Review and analyze legal documents, providing recommendations to clients and senior attorneys
- Advise clients on regulatory compliance issues related to water law and public policy
- Monitor changes in water law, environmental regulations, and public policy to ensure clients remain in compliance
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies and public officials on behalf of clients
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree and active bar membership in California
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in water law, environmental law, public law, or related litigation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High level of professionalism and ethical standards
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software
Salary: $144,000 - $195,000 per year, commensurate with your experience and qualifications
