Position: Linux Engineer
Location: Saint Louis, MO (100% Onsite)
Position Type: Full-Time
The Linux Systems Engineer position entails providing mid to high-level support for a Linux-based infrastructure and applications, as well as network monitoring and diagnostics. This role involves occasional after-hours work and non-standard schedules to ensure 24/7 operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing, testing, and implementing new solutions and services.
- Evaluating and suggesting improvements to existing infrastructure and technologies.
- Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, applications, hardware, storage, virtualization platforms, and system management tools.
- Providing documentation and technical specifications for advising and consulting on IT infrastructure upgrades.
- Analyzing security scans and audits to address deficiencies and propose security enhancements.
- Collaborating with the IS security team to ensure the security of infrastructure systems.
- Managing and monitoring IT infrastructure and applications.
- Troubleshooting hardware and software issues, documenting problems and solutions, and assessing their impact.
- Performing backup and recovery operations and implementing data protection and disaster recovery procedures.
- Leading support efforts to resolve application, server, and equipment issues with minimal disruption to operations.
- Serving as a Subject Matter Expert on company software and hardware, providing documentation for lower-tier administrators and technicians.
- Collaborating with vendors and IT personnel to resolve problems.
- Providing tier 3 resolutions for complex issues and occasionally being on-call after hours.
Required Skills:
- 3-5 years of experience in a high-tech environment, with a focus on infrastructure management.
- Proficiency with RedHat Satellite and IPA/IDM.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and command-line interfaces.
- Understanding of SAN and NAS storage devices.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networks and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to diagnose performance issues using standard performance tools and system indicators.
- Proficient in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in resolving client concerns with attention to detail.
