Summary/Objective
Blackwatch is providing support to help a federal agency enable an Information Technology (IT) transformation journey while it modernizes its IT systems. Blackwatch ensures mission operations continue by maintaining and operating over 250 on-premises legacy applications with 99.7% systems availability. Blackwatch provides 24x7 support by managing over 6,000 Linux and Windows servers with a mix of physical and virtual (VMware) hosts across two data centers. We provide services to approximately 250 DevSecOps Agile Teams maintaining product operations, system security and stability, release support, and troubleshooting services.
Blackwatch provides vital services in the provision and maintenance of server resources through a focus on the workflows and standardized methodologies to deliver timely resources to customers while ensuring products stay secure and stable by providing engineering and operations and maintenance support for Server Operating Systems, as well as, requirements analysis and design, to ensure adherence to standards and policies. Blackwatch is looking for night shift and/or weekend shift Linux Server Administrators who can support the continuous monitoring and maintenance of the Linux server environment for our client.
Responsibilities
Cover night and/or weekend shift activities supporting all Linux servers, including:
Monitoring availability and performance of all Linux servers using client-provided alerting systems and dashboard reports.
Responding accordingly to alerts - troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting activities. Escalating and engaging product teams, engineers, and security operations resources as appropriate. Establish, follow, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for these troubleshooting activities.
Execute approved releases / changes scheduled during working shift. Follow documented processes in the change control record to support and/or perform application deployments, upgrades, and/or configuration changes that require administrative access. Document activities and results per change management requirements and procedures.
Execute and validate security patching scheduled during working shift following SOPs.
Communicate effectively through written shift reports and shift change meetings the planned and completed activities, pending actions, and issues encountered and/or resolved during the shift.

Three (3) years of experience supporting Linux servers, preferably both Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and derivatives such as Rocky – including administration, monitoring, patching, deployments, validation, and troubleshooting
Must have experience supporting application development / operations teams through implementation and validation support. Gitlab experience is highly desirable.
Must have experience with network administration, server patching, security configuration, and validation. Experience with Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins or other automation platforms highly desirable. Experience with Satellite, Foreman, Katello, or other management systems highly desirable.
Fundamental understanding of networking and virtualization concepts. VCenter (VMware) experience.
Familiarity with ITSM systems such as ServiceNow for problem, change, and incident management).
