ABOUT THE POSITION: Spokane Valley is seeking highly qualified and enthusiastic employees to serve our City as regular, limited term Construction Inspector in the Development Engineering Division. The successful candidate will perform a variety of administrative, technical, and skilled tasks in the review and inspection of the City's rights of ways. This is a non-represented position that will be limited-term until December 2025.
SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Right-of-Way Inspection -- Inspects and approves all phases of public and private construction and improvement work in City rights-of-ways to assure that the appropriate construction is completed in compliance with the plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and regulations; issues correction notices or approvals as required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience -- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and three (3) years of experience relating to the construction of municipal infrastructure, including work in the right-of-way. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -- Thorough knowledge of road construction; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with contractors and the public; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; working knowledge of WSDOT standard specifications, the Inland Northwest Regional Pavement Cut Policy, and City of Spokane Valley Street Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid State Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of drug screening and a background check, including a criminal check, is a requirement of employment at Spokane Valley.
SALARY: The pay range is $31.45 - $48.79 per hour (grade 14). Hiring compensation DOQ.
BENEFITS: Health benefits are provided through the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust. The City currently provides medical, dental, life, long term disability, vision, and Employee Assistance benefits. Eleven paid holidays, vacation, sick, and other paid leaves are provided. The required retirement system of the City is Washington Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) which requires an employee contribution. The City does not participate in Social Security. However, the City has adopted an ICMA-RC 401(A) Social Security substitute plan with the same contribution rates as FICA. All positions in the City are considered at-will.
