Light Duty Mechanic
Department: Fleet FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Fleet Services
COMPENSATION: $22-$28
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with daily vehicle inspections
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment and machinery
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges (training provided if needed)
- Perform repairs and replacement of the following systems: Engine, aftertreatment, transmission, clutch, air brake, wheel end assembly, suspension, cooling, coupling, charging, light systems, vacuum and hydraulics
- Fabricate, recondition and replace parts as needed
- Detail parts with industrial steam cleaner machine
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks and hoists
- Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
- Raise trucks, heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
- Provide records of all work performed to Director of Fleet Services
- Follow department and company procedures
- Keep regular attendance and punctuality
- Full time, year round position with overtime
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing required. Commercial Driver’s License a plus
- Minimum 2 years education or related experience
- NYS Inspector License a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Desire to be trained in the safe and efficient performance of the work
- Ability to use various computer software programs once trained in proper use
- Ability to work under minimal direction.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to frequent change of priority.
- Must be able to take initiative to solve problems within established guidelines
- Must be flexible in changes to schedule, average of 55 - hour work week
- Must be qualified to operate a company vehicle
- Must have own tools
- Knowledge of the Rochester area a plus
