About the Job
The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for Daytime Indoor Lifeguards within the Parks and Recreation Department. Gain valuable customer service and team-oriented skills while serving our community at our Lenexa Rec Center.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week with shifts scheduled between the hours of 7:00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday
Position Summary
Lifeguards are responsible for the overall daily operation of the City’s swimming pools. The Lifeguard is responsible for the supervision of pool patrons, maintaining training standards, daily pool maintenance and operational activities, and record keeping. Duties also include enforcing aquatic facility rules and policies, guarding and attending to swimmers, and performing first aid and emergency procedures as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Candidates must successfully complete the following:
- Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl (using rhythmic breathing); 100 yards of breaststroke; and 100 yards of either front crawl, breaststroke, or a mixture of both.
- Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface dive to a depth of 13 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object within the allotted time.
- Tread water for 2 minutes in deep water without the use of arms and hands for stability.
- Possess good customer service skills and emergency response.
- Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with the Waterpark module, CPR, and First Aid/AED certifications required, or ability to obtain prior to employment date. The City of Lenexa offers the Lifeguard Training classes to candidates.
Starting rate of pay is $15.50 per hour.
Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment drug screen. A background check is required if age 18 or older.
