About the Job
The Life Support Training Center Instructor is responsible for delivering the AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) programs; the EVMS Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) program, and other life support oriented educational programs conducted by the SCSIL in accordance with the instructor’s credentials and qualifications. The Life Support Training Center Instructor must have the ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule which includes weekends and evenings.
This is a transient position working no more than 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:- Based on certifications, teach BLS, ACLS, PALS, Heartsaver, First Aid, and ASLS courses on an as needed basis.
- Be available to instruct at least one class per month in each course the instructor has the credentials to teach.
- Be knowledgeable of, and adhere to, the course criteria and standards promulgated by the governing bodies of the life support training course offerings. Share related criteria and standards, including updates, with and serve as a resource for affiliated course directors and instructors.
- Ensure the security of exams and training center computer data.
- Confirm the accuracy of all required course records and documentation.
- As required, serve as faculty on courses to maintain relevant certifications.
- Maintain requirements for AHA instructor alignment under Tidewater Center for Life Support (TCLS) for roster submissions.
- Ensure that class rosters are completed, certification cards and educational credits issued, and related class records are maintained.
- In conjunction with the simulation technicians, ensure that routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs are scheduled and conducted as required of models, manikins, life support training equipment, and audio/visual equipment, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Must be certified as an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor in one or more of the following disciplines: BLS, ACLS, PALS, or ASLS; and be willing to align instructor certification(s) under the Tidewater Center for Life Support (TCLS). Three (3) years of experience in critical care and/or emergency medicine is preferred.
Background of instructional experience preferred. Must possess the ability to plan, organize and coordinate assigned activities effectively and efficiently. Personal computer (word processing and database management) experience desired.
