The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center Palliative Care Team has a wonderful opportunity for a LVN Data Registrar. The RUHS Palliative Care team holds Advanced Certification in Palliative Care by the Joint Commission and is comprised of a dedicated group of professionals including: 2 Physicians, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 1 Nurse Coordinator, 1 Registered Nurse, 2 Social Workers, 1 Chaplain, and 1 Psychologist. This team facilitates goals of care discussions and family meetings for patients with advanced and end stage disease and assists with symptom management and whole person care to facilitate the best quality of life for very ill patients.
By utilizing a multidisciplinary approach and ensuring the highest quality of palliative care, this team brings hope, quality of life, and relief of suffering to some of the sickest patients. The team is truly dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients and their families through symptom relief, emotional support, spiritual attention, and heartfelt listening.

This position requires to have at least 3 years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse working in a hospital or acute care setting. The incumbent will be responsible for collecting data from patients charts and submitting the information into an internal excel database and a national palliative care database. This position does NOT consist of direct patient care.

4/10 (four, ten-hour days per work week)

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Evaluate the Palliative Care Program performance improvement activities under the supervision of the Palliative Care Program Nurse Coordinator.
Participates in the RUHS Palliative Care Committee & RUHS Performance Improvement Patient Safety Committee.
Involvement in The Joint Commission - Disease Specific Accreditation which includes data collection, data entry, data analysis and transmission to both The Joint Commission and the House-wide Internal Measure Report on a monthly basis.
Maintains Palliative Care Consult log and completes data abstracting from patient records into internal database system and the national Palliative Care database.
Maintains knowledge of current trends in the field of Palliative care performance improvement.
Prepares case conference summaries of significant events, under the direction of the Palliative Care Coordinator for committee review.
Evaluates patient satisfaction with the perception of quality and works with the Palliative Care Program Coordinator to utilize data for program performance improvement activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed Vocational Nurse II Experience: At least three (3) years of successful experience as an LVN, preferably in a hospital environment or data registrar job.
Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology, acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration and any policies and procedures of the setting assigned.
Ability to: Skillfully perform the full range of vocational nursing duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; learn and follow policies and procedures for the setting assigned; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, mid-level providers, registered nurses, patients, and co-workers; complete and maintain reports and patient records; make observations of situations accurately and report them so effective action can be taken according to rules of documentation and policies and procedures.
Other Requirements:
License : Possession of a valid California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.
Certification : Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association for professional healthcare providers.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
- Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
- Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. Effective July 1, 2023 employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024.
A new member is defined as any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".
Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
