The Department of Health Services is currently seeking a motivated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for an intermittent, extra-help position!
Starting salary up to $37.57/hour*
NOTE: The Department of Health Services is currently recruiting to fill an Extra-Help Licensed Vocational Nurse position at either the I or II level. If you are interested in applying at the II level, you will need to apply to the separate, concurrent recruitment being conducted.
The Youth and Family Services Licensed Vocational Nurse will provide nursing care to children and youth at the Lakes campus in Santa Rosa. Responsibilities include:
- Recording vital signs
- Receiving phone calls for medication questions and concerns
- Documenting services in the electronic health record
- Reporting urgent needs to child psychiatrists
- Taking verbal medication orders
- Managing and administering injections
- Processing step-out referral documents
- Coordinating care with primary care providers
This LVN position will work with other LVN team members as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They are expected to work independently with an understanding of when to seek supervision and consultation from a team member, supervising Registered Nurse (RN), manager, or psychiatrist. The LVN I positions require possession of a current California LVN license. The ideal candidates will also possess:

- Experience working with children and families
- The ability to multitask and set priorities independently
- Strong attention to detail
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- A recovery-focused approach
- Experience with substance abuse disorder/mental health clients
- Experience with electronic health records
- Familiarity with community resources
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are desirable, not required
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Intermittent, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most regular employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Intermittent, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of 1,380 hours within any twelve-month consecutive period. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
*Salary is negotiable within the established range.
