Position Summary
The Licensed Veterinary Technician working within the College of Veterinary Medicine's Pet Health Center (PHC) will perform the following duties: monitoring the receiving schedule, technician appointments, monitoring records, inputting charges, specimen collection, patient treatments, RX refills, sedating and recovering patients, fielding questions, consults and calls for the clinicians, helping and training senior veterinary students and technician students with physicals, treatments, phlebotomy, bandaging, as well as assisting during patient receiving, and cleaning and organizing the ward with adherence to Infectious Dx protocols. This individual will aid in these duties as well as enhance patient receiving and diagnostic imaging, timely patient call backs, and surgical support with patient prep and as a scrub nurse. This technician will also be responsible for obtaining radiographic images and coordinating transports between the Pet Health Center and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technician program and passing the VTNE with confirmed LVT license in the state of Georgia or ability to obtain an LVT license in the state of Georgia within 6 months of employment.
- Experience properly handling animals.
- Capable of dealing with stressful situations
- Ability to perform phlebotomy on animals
- Capable of manually calculating basic formulas for weight conversions, medication dose conversions
- Knowledge of animal anatomy
- Demonstrate competency with medical/surgical equipment, including care, cleaning and maintenance
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Dealing with stressful situations.

Perform day to day duties in the Pet Health Center including Technician duties that consist of dental procedures, otic lavage, wound clipping, prepping, flushing, bandaging, casts, sedate, suture skin, dental procedures, catheterize, venipuncture, cystocentesis, injections, medicating, CPR, maintaining of airway and circulatory system management, drug dosage calculations, reconstituting and administering drugs including controlled substances, I.V. fluids, assist clinicians with neurology examinations.

Work with senior veterinary students, veterinary technician students and new nursing staff in the PHC. Assisting and instructing the new employees, senior veterinary students and veterinary technician students with the various duties performed in the community practice service; receiving, patient examinations, developing anesthesia protocols and performing anesthesia, dentistry, dental radiology, obtaining specimens and testing.

Obtain specimen samples and performing diagnostic procedures, i.e.; glucose monitoring, skin scraping, biopsies, allergy testing, fungal interpretations, cystocentesis, endoscopy, electrocardiology, echocardiography, biopsies, cytology preps, etc. Scrub in and assist in surgical procedures. Knowledge of how to work around a sterile environment and knowledge of instruments and their use. Administration of anesthetic agents and monitoring patients while under anesthesia for procedures demanded of the particular service.
