GENERAL PURPOSE:
To assess, make recommendations, provide treatments and documentation related to wounds. In addition, training other clinical staff about wound care; preventive measures; and providing updates as indicated to pertinent clinical staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the State of Alabama or in training to satisfactorily complete the requirements to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Completion of secondary education or otherwise show ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
- Must speak and understand English.
- Previous supervisory experience or completion of appropriate training program.
- Positive attitude toward the elderly.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Nursing Care Functions
- Assess new admissions upon admission for skin and/or wound status.
- Provide appropriate documentation including location; stage; description; recommendations for treatment.
- Contact Attending Physician for orders as needed.
- Admit, transfer and discharge residents as necessary
- Provide written and oral reports to Director of Nursing concerning status of wounds, surgical sites, etc. and other problem areas as indicated.
- Assist in developing and implementing corrective actions as necessary
- Monitor treatment to ensure residents are receiving proper care
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of all nursing service treatment areas
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary and ensure proper record keeping
- Consult with physician in providing incidents and changes in condition
- Meet with residents and families and report problems areas
- Administer professional services and provide direct nursing care as necessary
- Assist in arranging transportation for discharged residents
- Work with Director or Nurse's and other R.N. Supervisors on specialty bed/mattress management and other treatments that may require rentals - i.e. wound vac
- Drug Administration Functions
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Review medication cards for completeness accuracy and adherences
- Notify physicians of stop orders prior to the last dosage being administered
- Verify resident identities to ensure prescribed medications are administered to the proper residents
- Ensure that narcotic records are accurate and notify the Director of Nursing of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on the shift
- Ensure proper disposal of drugs and narcotics
- Order prescribed medication, supplies and equipment as necessary
- Ensure that adequate levels of medications, supplies and equipment are available at all times, reporting needs to the Director of Nursing.
