Licensed Practical Nurse Supervisor - Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde

Job Summary:

Provides oversight, guidance, and documentation of the medication dispensary and laboratory services within the Opioid Treatment Program, Great Circle Recovery. Ensures that proper tracking of all medication orders are logged and tracked in accordance with all state and federal requirements.

Essential Functions: Manages the day to day functioning of the medication dispensary and laboratory services in the Opioid Treatment Program. Ensures staff nurses and lab staff are following standard protocols, and documenting all processes and procedures correctly. Manages nursing processes and updates all clinical documents for the purposes of clinical oversight and CARF accreditation reviews and guidelines. Ensures medications are ordered, documented, and supplies are tracked so all aspects of the dispensary and lab are operational. Performs daily dispensing functions and monitors clients for medication side effects. Collects urine samples, performs rapid toxicology screening, and collects blood samples. Recognizes office medical emergencies and coordinates treatment within the multidisciplinary team and follows licensed medical professional guidelines. Contacts licensed medical professional for newly admitted clients to report medical status and request individual medication orders. Monitors client medical status, measures vital signs, and performs basic routine medical procedures. Follows all protocols implemented by the licensed medical professional. Administers and reviews PPD (Tuberculosis testing for purified protein derivative). Ensures proper client identification measures are followed, and documents all dosing through the electronic health record management system. Maintains dialogue with other health care professionals (dental, mental health, chemical dependency, etc.) to promote and facilitate comprehensive healthcare services i.e. whole person centered care throughout the recovery environment. Provides cross-training for dispensary and lab staff. Coordinates staff schedules to maintain function of dispensary and lab during all operating hours including emergencies. Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by Director.

Supervisory: Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned nursing staff in accordance with Tribal Laws, policy, and procedures. Schedules and directs appropriate scope of practice and evaluating the efficiency of the OTP clinic patient flow. Schedules staff and evaluates performance and conducts performance evaluations for assigned staff. Assures staff adherence to all policies and procedures, work, safety and administrative rule, Tribal Law and State Regulations. Serves as a mentor, as requested, for Tribal career development.

Education, Experience, and Licenses: Requires a current unencumbered Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse; with a one (1) year experience in a clinical settingpreferably in a recovery environment. Practical training in phlebotomy required. OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements: This position may require driving.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications: Requires a Current CPR/BLS, or ability to obtain certification and must maintain within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment. Must have knowledge of Licensed Practical Nursing scope of practice. Requires two (2) years abstinence from alcohol and chemical dependency (if recovering person). Ability to lead and collaborate across multiple systems. Demonstrated proficiency in IV's, basic wound care, and phlebotomy required Requires working knowledge and proficiency in use of office equipment and computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Must have knowledge and experience in use of computerized electronic health records and software applications. Must have the ability to resolve conflict while utilizing conflict management philosophies. Must have ability to handle high client volumes. Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment within the clinic. Working knowledge of sterile technique and special procedures applicable to care delivered. Requires working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety precautions applicable to health clinic setting. Must have a working knowledge of the Privacy Act/HIPPA and its applications. Adherences to the organization's policies and procedures covering the privacy, access, and patient health information in compliance with Federal and state laws. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and clinic staff. Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and record keeping skills. Must have ability to respond courteously and tactfully to complaints and client requests. Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements: Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication. Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks. Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally. Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds. Continually requires the use of vision, specifically close vision, color identification and depth perception. Continually required to wear plastic/latex gloves and safety shoes. Continually required to handle soiled laundry. Occasionally required to wear safety glasses. Occasionally exposed to compressed gases and detergents. Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations. Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan. May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies. This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions. Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
