Responsibilities:New York Institute of Technology seeks a part-time Librarian for its Art & Architecture Library. Reporting to the Associate Director of Branch Services, the Librarian works as a member of a collaborative staff providing information and collection management services in support of the university’s architecture, design and arts programs; provides reference, research consultation and instructional services; participates in faculty outreach; assists with circulation desk coverage, identifies and promotes new resources and provides instructional services to students and faculty; contributes to library research guides.
- Part-time position-day time coverage, providing physical and digital reference services to students and faculty.
- Library resource instruction.
- Participate in collection development projects.
- Record library information and usage statistics.
- Responsible for opening and closing of the library.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical schedule: Two days a week; 3pm-8pm
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
Degree in Art History or fields of art, architecture, design and related fields along with university academic library experience are preferred, but will consider candidates with applied professional background.
Candidate is required to have competencies in a range of broad and specialized subject knowledge in the fields of art, architecture, design and related fields in both physical and electronic services in the arts and related areas.
Working Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint.
Knowledge of MARC records, RDA and AACR2, LCSH, MESH, LC and NLM classification.
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and problem solving skills, collaborative and responsive leadership skills, flexibility and a strong service orientation are essential.
Public service experience with excellent and effective communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated cultural competencies and abilities to communicate with students, faculty and staff of diverse academic, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
