Education Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED required.
Required Experience for the Legal Secretary
• 2-4 years experience required with workers compensation litigation
• Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
• Basic knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and the democratic political process.
• Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams and Excel.
Legal Secretary Overview:
The main function of a legal secretary paralegal is to assist lawyers by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. A typical paralegal is responsible for conducting research to support a legal proceeding, formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.
Job Responsibilities:
• Prepare legal documents related to workers compensation litigation.
• Prepare affidavits or other documents, maintain document file, and efile with the board.
• Review and proofread data and other information, such as records or reports.
• Supervise the maintenance of workers’ compensation files, inventory, mailing, and database systems.
