The Koch internship program is an in-depth experience that puts interns at the center of a challenging work environment that includes meaningful project involvement, professional mentoring, and capability-based training.
What You Will Do
Koch Legal Department is Hiring Four 1L Summer Interns
- Two positions will be based out of the Georgia-Pacific Center in Atlanta, GA
- Two positions will be based out of the Koch HQ in Wichita, KS
Our Legal Department provides services in an impressive array of specialties, including corporate law, real estate, mergers & acquisitions, litigation, internal investigations, labor & employment, environmental health & safety, and intellectual property. This 11-week rotation program offers first-year law students an exceptional opportunity to work with industry leaders and learn about the day-to-day work of an in-house counsel in one of the largest privately-owned companies in the country.
Because of the size and scale of Koch companies, our legal professionals practice in a variety of disciplines not only across the U.S., but around the world. Interns benefit from both hands-on experience and observational opportunities based on emerging events. Projects offer exposure to the following:
- Legal research and writing - delving into a particular legal issue to provide guidance on a topical question (e.g., the applicability of a regulation to a particular business or facility, review of state or local ordinance, review of enforcement developments and other emerging issues)
- Assist with regulatory submissions and discovery document review
- Provide support during mergers & acquisitions - assisting with due diligence, disclosure and other schedules, researching issues, review of agreements
- Attend business and client meetings and collaborate with supervising attorney on ideas, concepts and issues
- Draft and revise contractual agreements (e.g., confidential disclosure, supply, vendor, license)
- Travel to facilities that manufacture the goods produced by companies within Koch Industries
- Participate in and support Koch pro bono initiatives
Koch Corporate Transaction/Legal Capability is Hiring one 1L Summer intern
- This positions will be based out of the Koch HQ in Wichita, KS
This capability is imbedded within the Tax Department and provides legal services related to corporate governance, transactions, and tax law to all of Koch's businesses around the world.
Assigned work and observation opportunities will vary based on emerging events during the time of internship, but will ultimately relate to corporate or tax law. All projects will be under the supervision of an attorney and may offer exposure to the following types of work and projects:
- Assist the supervising attorney with executing legal aspects of internal restructuring transactions, including drafting, review and execution of documents
- Legal research and writing memos - delving into a particular legal issue or topic (e.g., applicability of a law or regulation to a particular business, review of local requirements to form new companies, and other emerging issues)
- Assist with formation and liquidation of legal entities
- Review various types of contracts and agreements from a legal perspective, assist with updates to template library
- Engage with external US and international counsel at the direction of internal counsel
- Provide support with corporate governance compliance. Examples include understanding annual filing requirements, assisting with foreign qualifications and analyzing local disclosure requirements
- Meet with tax planners, accounting and treasury to plan and implement corporate restructuring transactions
- Attend business meetings. Assist with meeting preparation and collaborate with supervising attorney on ideas, concepts and issues
- Attend optional tax-intern trainings as deemed beneficial, for example Excel, financial statement and compliance process
- The opportunity to learn and become involved in Koch's pro-bono initiatives
Interns also enjoy a variety of social events and volunteer opportunities scheduled throughout the summer to facilitate networking and lasting career connections. Many events will be in conjunction with law firms in the area. Both inside and outside Koch, you will be introduced to a group of people interested in furthering your career.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Applicants must be current 1L year students; rising 2L by Summer 2025.
- This role is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.

- Corporate Transaction/Tax team: Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting or business related major
- 3.3 GPA or above or considered top 30% of the class
