Team Overview
As Legal Counsel, you are a vital part of the US Legal Division Team. This position will focus in particular on parental rights advocacy. In this role, you will report to Sr. Counsel, Director of Center for Parental Rights. Your primary role will be to assist the Parental Rights team with creating and reviewing public relations material regarding parental rights litigation and advocacy campaigns. You will assist with developing messaging, overseeing legal review, and working closely with the communications and marketing teams to assist with strategically framing the cultural conversation on these topics. As Legal Counsel, you will work to build and maintain key allied relationships to assist with meeting strategic goals for promoting parental rights, working closely with the litigation and legislative teams. We will also look for opportunities for you to provide limited direct support and research for parental rights litigation efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research for parental rights advocacy and resources.
- Review and be knowledgeable about complaints, motions, briefs, and other documents so that you can effectively review all public statements/content on parental rights cases.
- Represent ADF’s parental rights advocacy efforts in court of public opinion.
- Confer with colleagues to establish and verify facts, create accurate messaging, etc.
- Cooperate with Development team, including speaking engagements and other events.
- Interact with media regarding cases and issues.
- Advise allied attorneys on legal issues within areas of competence.
- Network and develop relationships with allied groups and attorneys and/or potential allied groups and attorneys.
Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential):
- You will be asked to perform related duties or special projects as assigned.
- You will be asked to provide limited direct support and research for parental rights litigation efforts.

- J.D., active license in at least one US state bar and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
