Description:
Our prestigious law firm, based in San Jose, California, is seeking a knowledgeable Legal Assistant with a strong background in Family Law to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys in a dynamic legal environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years family law experience and a keen attention to detail, with the ability to manage various tasks related to family law cases.
As a Legal Assistant, you will be supporting the attorneys and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the firm. You will be responsible for drafting legal documents, managing case files, coordinating meetings, and maintaining excellent communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel. This position requires a candidate who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate initiative, and be highly organized.
Responsibilities:

Document Preparation & Filing:
- Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including petitions, motions, discovery responses, child custody agreements, divorce settlements, and other family law-related materials.
- Ensure timely filing of documents with the court, including electronic filings (e-filing) and physical filings as necessary.

Client Interaction & Communication:
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, providing updates on case progress, responding to inquiries, and assisting with document collection.
- Prepare and send correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and courts as directed.

Case Management & Organization:
- Maintain and organize client files, ensuring that all case-related documents are up-to-date, easily accessible, and compliant with firm protocols.
- Assist with calendaring deadlines, appointments, and hearings, ensuring all legal proceedings are timely and appropriately scheduled.

Research & Legal Support:
- Conduct legal research on family law matters as needed to support attorneys in case preparation.
- Prepare summaries of case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to ongoing cases.

Court & Client Coordination:
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and mediations.
- Coordinate with court personnel to schedule hearings and resolve procedural issues.
- Attend court hearings or meetings as needed to take notes and assist attorneys during proceedings.
Qualifications:

Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of legal assistant experience in family law required.
- Strong knowledge of California Family Law, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, property division, and related areas.

Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software (e.g., Clio, Westlaw, LexisNexis, or similar).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft legal documents and correspondence.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Language Skills:
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish or other languages) are highly desirable, but not required.
