Legal Assistant – Family Law
Our fast-paced family law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Legal Assistant to join our dedicated team. This position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage a larger-than-average caseload, and a strong commitment to supporting our clients through some of life’s most challenging moments.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management: Maintain a caseload of 100–150 active cases, ensuring deadlines are met and workflows are efficiently managed.
Administrative Support: Manage attorney calendars, schedule court appearances, mediations, depositions, and arbitrations, and maintain organized physical and electronic files.
Document Preparation: Draft and proofread pleadings, correspondence, trial notebooks, and exhibits.
E-Filing: File documents in both Oregon and Washington courts.
Discovery: Prepare and respond to requests for production and other discoveries.
Client & Partner Communication: Regularly communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other stakeholders via phone and email.
Trial Preparation: Assist with the organization of trial materials and exhibits.
Other Duties: Handle additional tasks as assigned to support the firm’s operations.
Family Law Focus:
Complex valuation issues, including closely held businesses and forensic accounting.
Spousal support, custody disputes, and emergency restraining or custody orders.
Abuse prevention and defense of abuse claims.
Drafting marital settlement agreements, property settlement agreements, and domestic relations orders.
Mediation and collaborative divorce processes.
Collection actions for back support or delinquent property awards.
Representation of LGBTQ+ parents, children, and domestic partnerships.
Adoptions (full, step parent, and contested).
Prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, including asset protection and estate planning.
Divorce and dissolution of same-sex domestic partnerships or domestic partnerships implied by law.
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a legal assistant in family law or a similar field is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in legal software, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to handle a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of Oregon and Washington court systems is a plus.
