Experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal Opportunity
A well-respected family law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their dynamic team in Royal Oak, Michigan. This role offers an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills and contribute to the success of a leading boutique practice.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of litigation support experience, with a proven ability to multitask effectively, superior time management skills, and a passion for thriving in a busy, team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities:
File Management:
- Drafting pleadings, correspondence, and discovery documentation
- Managing confidential legal documentation and correspondence
- Organizing and maintaining documents in paper and electronic filing systems
- Providing support to attorneys to enhance case effectiveness
- Preparing for trials by organizing exhibits and assisting with related tasks
- Demonstrating excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Time and Calendar Management:
- Scheduling client appointments, hearings (phone, video, and in-person)
- Docketing timelines and due dates
- Maintaining attorney calendars, checking for conflicts, and notifying clients
- Proactively managing deadlines and keeping attorneys informed
Professional Communication:
- Possessing excellent grammar, proofreading, and organizational skills
- Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication with attorneys, clients, and staff
- Familiarity with legal procedures, protocols, and the court system
- Handling sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion
Team Collaboration:
- Working well independently and as part of a team
- Completing tasks in a timely and professional manner
- Knowledge of day-to-day operations in a legal office
- Ability to manage multiple activities and work under pressure
Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, including asset/liability sheets)
- Experience with e-filing and general filing procedures
- Skilled in using legal research tools and case management software
- Familiarity with family law procedures, legal terminology, and court rules
- Clio experience is preferred
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal in a litigation firm
- Prior experience in Family Law is a significant advantage
- Paralegal certification from an accredited institution is preferred but not required
