Job Details
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for carrying out administrative services and providing support to attorneys with various immigration matters (family-based petitions, employment-based petitions, deportation defense, and asylum and humanitarian applications).
Responsibilities:
- Provide written and verbal Spanish-English translation.
- Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, application forms, court pleadings, and other legal documents.
- File pleadings in state and federal court.
- Open new client matters and initiate conflict checks.
- Organize and maintain filings (including electronic filing) and files.
- Assist timekeepers with tracking deadlines and organizing projects.
- Type from rough draft, handwritten materials and/ or dictation into proper format.
- Schedule and calendar appointments and meetings; make travel arrangements and complete expense reports.
Qualifications:
- Experience as an immigration legal assistant, 3+ years preferred.
- Strong skills in word processing and computer use; proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel), Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is essential.
- Experience filing with state and federal courts. Ability to read and understand court rules, ensure compliance with court rules and assigned judge’s individual rules and practices.
