About the Job
The Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) is seeking a Legal Assistant in the Bar Counsel department. The work schedule for this position is hybrid. 8AM-4:30PM, 37.5 hours per week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the office. Tuesday and Thursday work from home.
Key Responsibilities as a Legal Assistant
- Transcription and word processing as well as hard copy preparation of briefs, other legal pleadings and documents; maintenance and organization of lawyer discipline case files. Fluency in Microsoft Word required; experience with Excel preferred.
- Manage files and filing deadlines with use of JustWare database; manage database information for all disciplinary files. Experience with JustWare or Microsoft Access required.
- Comfort level with technology platforms/systems required.
- Copy and organize documents, scan files, and maintain paper and electronic filing systems
- Ability to establish and/or follow established procedures for job duties that may be performed frequently or infrequently.
- Professional verbal communication, in the form of daily phone calls with lawyers and members of the public.
- Organize and coordinate materials for Inquiry Commission panel meetings; process pleadings filed in office.
- Coordinate hearings, including scheduling of court reporters/videographers; perform back-up duties for absent assistants; and general secretarial duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: 1-3 years of related experience
Physical Requirements
This position is required to sit for extended periods of time, reach, stoop, crouch and bend, and operate a vehicle.
Sensory Requirements
This position requires the ability to hear, speak, talk, and see.
Working Condition
This position works in a typical office environment.
Availability and Travel
This position must be available for normal business hours and able to travel for multiple days at a time.
