Responsibilities:
- Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements; refers complex matters to appropriate staff.
- Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints. Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR / Compliance staff when additional investigation is required.
- Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and other employment transactions for employees within the collective bargaining unit.
- Jointly develops practical implementation plans to resolve ER issues that consider the overall culture/past practices of the organization with a goal to maintain a positive, engaged work environment.
- Interpret contractual agreements for leaders and employees engaged in labor relations processes.
- Mediate discussions between employer and employee representatives in attempt to reconcile differences.
- Call or meet with union, company, or other interested parties to discuss labor relations matters, such as grievances.
- Schedule or coordinate the details of grievance hearings or other meetings. This will include preparing evidence for disciplinary hearings.
- Review and approve employee disciplinary actions, such as written reprimands, suspensions, and requests for terminations. Receive necessary approval for terminations from HR Director and/or legal counsel.
- Train managers or supervisors on topics related to labor relations, such as working conditions, safety, or equal opportunity practices.
- Administer Leave of Absences and related data transactions for all employees within the collective bargaining unit. This will include auditing leave information ensuring that we are adhering to the leave practices
- Effectively coordinates all cases and claims to include general administration, comprehensive case management and program compliance with FMLA and all related employment laws
- Process required documents through insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions while employees are on leave of absence
- Support employees within the collective bargaining unit regarding Leave of absence (FMLA, NY PFL, and general leave of absence)
- Follow up daily on all open claims to ensure the employee returns to work in a timely manner and setup any alternative work and/or accommodations as needed.
- Handle ADA accommodations as requested.
- Responsible for managing all HR administrative tasks for the facility, to include ADP maintenance, mail handling, file maintenance, document management, and site compliance posting
- Will work directly with corporate payroll on all employee payroll concerns and/or timecard issues.
- Leads and/or participates on special projects or enterprise initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience handling workplace investigations and/or EEOC charges strongly preferred
- 2+ years working complex Employee Relations issues, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and other state and federal regulations preferred
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) highly preferred.
- 1+ years of HRIS ADP experience highly preferred.
- Strong coaching and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- 4+ years of experience in related field, preferred, specifically in Employee Relations or HR Generalist roles with a focus in Employee Relations in a Union environment
