Location: Grand Rapids, MI
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring 2–3 days onsite weekly at the Grand Rapids office. An extensive corporate relocation package is available for eligible candidates.
Job Description
The Lead Test Systems Design Engineer – Avionics will design and develop automated test systems (ATEs) and test programs for design verification and production testing of electronic avionics assemblies. Responsibilities include requirements management, electronic circuit design, software development for full test automation, and hardware/software integration into complete systems.
Responsibilities:
•Design automated test equipment (ATE), hardware, and software for new product development and replacement of existing test systems, supporting complex electronic aerospace applications.
•Develop in-depth knowledge of automated test engineering discipline.
•Lead test equipment development through all project phases: Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Hardware/Software Design, Integration, and Verification.
•Influence overall test strategy, data analytics, and board test strategies for manufacturing.
•Evaluate, select, and apply test engineering techniques and procedures independently.
•Control schedules, forecasting, and budgets for test equipment development.
•Generate test software and design electrical test hardware; lead design reviews.
•Create test design documentation.
•Mentor and coach other test engineers in technology, design, and processes.
•Collaborate closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Engineering teams.
•Provide technical support to manufacturing.
•Prepare material for and participate in customer reviews and presentations.
•Communicate significant issues or developments to project leadership promptly.
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
•Software design experience.
•5+ years of experience in test systems design, automated test systems development, or electrical systems design for complex electronic products.
•Circuit design capabilities for test equipment (e.g., signal conditioning, signal conversion, stimulus synthesis).
•Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
•Strong oral and written communication skills.
Eligibility Requirements:
•Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now or in the future.
•U.S. Citizenship required due to U.S. Government contract restrictions.
•Successful completion of a drug screen (as applicable).
Desired Characteristics:
•Experience with processor-based electronics hardware for test and diagnostics.
•Proficiency in software development using National Instruments TestStand, C/C++/C#, and LabWindows/CVI.
•Familiarity with analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825 interfaces, and more.
•Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
•Systems engineering approach to development.
