About the Job
The Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of professional-level engineering tasks in his/her areas of expertise. May act independently as the engineer in responsible charge for smaller projects, and for portions of larger or complex projects. Will take technical direction on a project and assignment-specific basis from their supervisor. May be assigned to several projects concurrently, and on each project assignment may report for technical direction to a different supervisor. The Lead Engineer position is a professional-level technical position, with limited responsibility for performing management tasks.

What You Will Do:
- Perform structural engineering analysis and design of a variety of structures including, but not limited to:
- New and existing single- and multi-story buildings
- Pipe-racks and industrial manufacturing supports
- Essential facility equipment anchorage
- Field surveys outside the office, as directed by senior technical staff
- Prepare reports, letters, transmittals, etc. under the direction of project supervisors.
- Assist Principal Engineers and Project Managers in preparing calculation packages and construction drawings for clients.
- Create detailed 3D computer models to analyze more complex buildings and structures.
- Initiates project set up and project management files for projects or sub-projects of moderate complexity.
- Acts in responsible charge, while directly performing assigned engineering tasks in conformance with the Company's quality standards, project budget and schedule.
- Communicate with clients and contractors for technical coordination of project requirements.
- Assists in technical training and mentoring of Engineers and Interns.
Education and Experience
- State of California Professional Engineer License (P.E.)
- A Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (or recognized equivalent) and four (4) to six (6) years of relevant work experience; or
- Master of Science degree in the appropriate engineering discipline (or recognized equivalent), and at least three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of latest building codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7) and material standards (AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS).
- Familiarity with common structural building systems (gravity and lateral) and materials (steel, concrete, masonry and wood).
- Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications including spreadsheets, word processors, email, and Internet browsers.
- Ability to communicate technical aspects of projects and of work assignments to peers, subordinates and clients.
- Ability to perform structural design engineering using both computer based and manual computations.
- Familiar with popular structural engineering software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D).
- Ability to direct the execution of moderately complex engineering tasks.
- Needs to be familiar with the ABS Consulting's Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System. (Internal candidates only.)
