Be a star contributor in the team of FirstNet Product Development Engineers to research, design, plan, develop and/or evaluate new, advanced network technologies by translating requirements or strategic business objectives into final product design and functional requirements for the FirstNet program.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy and Planning:
- Define the product vision and strategy in alignment with company goals.
- With Product Marketing, conduct market research and analysis to understand customer needs and market trends.
- Develop product roadmaps and prioritize features based on business value and customer impact.
Project Management:
- Lead cross-functional teams through the product development lifecycle, from concept to launch.
- Create detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Monitor and report on project progress, adjusting plans as necessary to meet deadlines.
Requirement Gathering and Analysis:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document product requirements.
- Translate business needs into technical and functional specifications.
- Ensure that the product meets customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
Design:
- Concept Development: Initiate and oversee the ideation and conceptual design phase, ensuring alignment with customer needs and market trends.
- User Experience (UX) Design: Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and engaging user interfaces, emphasizing usability and customer satisfaction.
- Prototyping: Direct the development of prototypes and mockups to visualize product concepts and gather early feedback from stakeholders and users.
- Design Reviews: Conduct regular design reviews to ensure design consistency, feasibility, and alignment with product requirements.
Engineering:
- Technical Specifications: Work closely with engineering teams to translate product requirements into detailed technical specifications and architectures.
- Development Processes: Oversee the adoption of best practices in software and hardware development, including coding standards, version control, and continuous integration.
- Engineering Coordination: Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration of various components and systems.
- Problem-Solving: Address technical challenges and obstacles that arise during development, providing guidance and support to engineering teams.
- Performance Optimization: Ensure that the product meets performance standards and specifications, implementing improvements as necessary to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Implementation:
- Deployment Planning: Develop detailed plans for product deployment, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Implementation Oversight: Lead the implementation phase, ensuring that the product is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Integration Testing: Oversee comprehensive testing of the product, including integration, system, and user acceptance testing, to ensure seamless functionality.
- Documentation: Ensure that all aspects of the product, including design, engineering, and implementation processes, are thoroughly documented for future reference and compliance.
- Training and Support: Coordinate the development of training materials and conduct training sessions if needed for internal teams and end-users, ensuring they are well-equipped to use and support the product.
- Post-Implementation Review: Conduct post-implementation reviews to evaluate the success of the product launch, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
Launch and Post-Launch Activities:
- Develop go-to-market strategies and coordinate product launches.
- Train sales and customer support teams on product features and benefits.
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform future product iterations.
Performance Monitoring:
- Track key performance metrics and analyze product performance against goals.
- Identify opportunities for product improvements and drive continuous innovation.
Financial Responsibilities
- Budget Creation: Develop comprehensive budgets for projects, considering all phases from initial research to final launch and lifecycle support.
- Cost Estimation: Accurately estimate costs associated with design, engineering, testing, marketing, and other key activities.
- Resource Allocation: Allocate financial resources efficiently to maximize the impact of investments and minimize waste.
- Cost Reduction: Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality, such as through process improvements, bulk purchasing, or outsourcing.
- Vendor Management: Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing, ensuring cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
- Resource Efficiency: Drive efficient use of resources, including time, labor, and materials, to minimize waste and reduce costs.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial aspects of product development to stakeholders, including executives, to ensure transparency and buy-in.
- Lifecycle Costing: Manage the financial aspects of the product lifecycle, from initial development through to end-of-life, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired. 5+ years of related experience. Certification is required in some areas.
A Lead Product Development Engineer earns between $128,400.00 - $215,800.00 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
